摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for a luteohormone (derivative) in high selectivity and high yield, by isomerizing a 17alpha-cyano- steroid in the presence of a specific cyano compound in a lower alcoholic solvent. CONSTITUTION:17alpha-Cyano-17beta-hydroxyandrost-4-en-3-one, 17alpha-cyano-17beta- hydroxyandrosta-4,9<(11)>-dien-3-one or an acetal derivative at the 3-position thereof is isomerized in the presence of a cyano compound of the formula MCN (M is alkali metal or a protonated amine), e.g. a basic cyanide such as sodium cyanide or triethylammonium hydrocyanide, in a molar amount of preferably 2-5 times that of the steroid in a lower alcoholic solvent, preferably 1-3C alkyl, at 0-30 deg.C for 2-7hr to give the aimed 17beta-cyano-17alpha-hydroxysteroid.
